Much Needed Changes MoinMoin
Second Round
The wiki looks way, way better now. Here's one more round of changes I'd love to see:
- Page toolbar
- Let's remove
Show Changesbecause you get the same thing by clicking onGet Infoand thendiff. Also, let's renameGet InfotoShow Changessince that's what it really is! - After using the site for a while - including the PSAS site - I'd like to make the following changes based on usage:
- Move
Subscribeinto theMore Actionsdrop down - Move
Attachmentsfrom theMore Actionsdrop down up into the Page toolbar
- Let's remove
- Site Toolbar
- Add
RecentChangesbut call itRecent Changes - Add
HelpContentsbut call itWiki Help - Maybe move the search box from the title to under the site toolbar? For some reason, people just don't see it up there.
- Add
First Round
- User registration and authentication:
- Single registration page: add an "authentication password" box so that wiki spammers can't get in.
- Logging in shouldn't make you go to the login page - it should let you edit the page you were just on! It seems it would be better if the edit link were always live, and that if you weren't logged in, you'd be required just to log in first before editing that page. done. you can login and logout from the toolbar now - EK
- It would be really great if being authenticated for the wiki would also work for the gallery so that anyone with wiki access can post pictures.
- Moin user interface gripes
- Get rid of "thanks for editing" messages. Leave error and lock messages, or move them to their own page. done - EK
- Static navigation bar - no "current page" tab (that's what the address bar is for!) done - EK
- Remove ridiculous "Immutable page" display. As in the #1 above, it should just be edit and if you aren't authenticated you have to do that first. done - EK
- It looks like there might want to be 4 menus/tool bars/whatever you call them:
- A Navigation tool bar, which is just static links the site wants you to be able to easily get at.
- A Page tool bar, which has links to Edit, Show Changes (of the page), Get Info (what's the difference?), Subscribe/Unsubscribe, and the "other actions" drop down. Or maybe that drop down should be brought up... it would be handy if often used "other actions", like adding an attachment, weren't under a menu.
- A Site tool bar which has links to Recent Changes (of the site), wiki editing help, search the site, etc.
- I'm not sure if a User tool bar is a good idea or not. Certainly a link to the user's "homepage" is completely useless. ?UserPreferences is good, but you shouldn't have to go all the way there to log out.
- There's lots of other things... feel free to changes things that make no sense from a user interface point of view.
